The Edgewater

Elegant, timeless, and perfectly Madison.

Right on Lake Mendota, The Edgewater offers unbeatable lake views, incredible service, and golden-hour light that never disappoints. The terrace is ideal for ceremonies, and the ballroom is full of natural light with huge windows overlooking the lake.

Photography tip: Step out to the pier during sunset. The light over the water is absolutely beautiful during dusk as well.

Garver Feed Mill

Industrial charm with a creative heart.

Garver Feed Mill has a warmth and character that fits so many styles. The brick walls, large windows, and hanging lights give it a cozy, inviting atmosphere, perfect for couples who want a modern but comfortable vibe. Keep in mind that this is a building that is open to other businesses during the day/event but areas are roped off. I’ve found that couples either like the vibe or don’t. From a vendor point of view, this is a non-issue and only adds to what makes the space so unique.

Photography tip: The courtyard and front entry area have beautiful, even light that works perfectly for first looks or small bridal parties earlier in the day. At sunset, head across the parking lot and snag the beautiful backlighting that comes in through the trees.

The Tinsmith

Bright, airy, and full of greenery.

The Tinsmith’s glasshouse atrium and botanical design make it one of the most photogenic venues downtown. The architecture, light, and greenery all work together to create a modern, natural aesthetic. At any part of the day, you can find great light either inside the building, courtyard or any nooks and crannies around the block.

Photography tip: Keep in mind that it’s downtown Madison and doesn’t typically get a true sunset due to the taller buildings in the area. I’ve found that roughly 30 minutes prior to sunset is that sweet spot in getting great light without it getting too dark out.

The Madison Club

Refined, classic, and timeless.

The Madison Club combines elegance with history, offering beautiful architectural details and incredible indoor light. The staircase and library spaces are favorites for editorial-style portraits. Random info: I’ve been a member for several years and absolutely love it. The staff, old Madison elegance paired with the most amazing building in a great location are what keep me coming back!

Photography tip: Trust me on this one: the women’s lounge on the second floor has the prettiest wallpaper and natural light. The library is another hidden gem with soft, glowing window light that makes for stunning portraits.

Olbrich Botanical Gardens

A lush, romantic oasis.

Olbrich is one of Madison’s most iconic wedding locations, offering floral backdrops, winding paths, and the stunning Thai Pavilion. It’s an ideal venue for couples who love nature and color.

Photography tip: Early ceremonies are best for softer light and quieter spaces — the gardens truly shine in the morning.

Harvest Moon Pond

Rustic warmth and natural charm.

Just north of Madison in Poynette, Harvest Moon Pond offers modern amenities with countryside views. The pond and barn glow beautifully under string lights, creating a cozy, romantic feel.

Photography tip: The reflections on the water at dusk are some of my favorite night-time shots — worth waiting for every time.

The Lageret

Industrial history meets modern design.

In nearby Stoughton, The Lageret combines exposed brick, tall windows, and wood beams for a look that’s both rustic and urban. It’s an incredible choice for couples who love texture and atmosphere.

Photography tip: Upstairs near the large arched windows is one of the best natural-light spots in southern Wisconsin.
